set on the flop
I had this hand yesterday want to get your thoughts.
Early in a 10 seater sng blinds 25/50, 10 players left
I have 1750 in chips
Folds round to the cutoff who raises x3 the big blind (seems loose although not as loose as me) i call on the button with 33, blinds fold.
pot is 375
Flop is 3h 7h Asp
he bets 200 i raise to 700 thinking i'm happy to take the hand down now with bottom set but i don't mind a call. he goes all in. I figure he has either top pair Aces or a flush draw and is trying to get me to lay down my top pair aces which i haven't got. After running the hand through my head i then call leaving myself with about 400 back.
he turns over Ah Kh and hits 9h on the turn for the flush.
I knew he was on a draw, i have found from experience that some players go all in on a flush draw attempting the semi bluff although he did have top pair too.
I feel i played this hand correctly given the type of tourney i was playing i also think my opponent played correctly too. What do you think?
I was roughly a 2-1 favourite, would you have called an all in with bottom set on this flop?

Bad beat id say. you played the hand great getting him all in is what you wanted. I may have slow played it right after the flop but he went all in anyways. Just have to take the hit and try not to go on tilt.

RE: set on the flop
I do agree with you both but is there an argument for laying down bottom set to an all in with a flush draw showing.

RE: set on the flop
I think it was a fair decision , just because a flush is possible does'nt always mean it will happen or the person purporting to have it actually has it, however perhaps your stack was too small to have taken that chance

RE: set on the flop
I am aware that the odds were against him making his flush but do you think bottom set is worth playing for all your chips. I mean it wasn't like i had anywhere near the nuts and the blinds were not at the punishing stage yet.
i do agree with you all just trying to provoke a good poker debate, there must be other ways to play hands like this.

RE: set on the flop
When I am playing properly I give the other guy credit for having a better hand than I have, sometimes I am right and sometimes I can kick myself. I suppose it depends how strong our luck is running at the time

RE: set on the flop
I would agree with you Mannie. When i first starting playing holdem i used to assume too much that people were bluffing, this gets you into a lot of sitiuations that can be avoided[/i]. I think you are right the best approach is to assume your opponent has something. There is also i think no shame in laying down the best hand even if they do show a bluff. At least they gave you some free information.

RE: set on the flop
Yes that is how I try to play now , you hit it on the head ,that by assuming the other guy is bluffing me go wrong
