RE: ring games or tourneys.

started out playing ring games but the financial swings can get scary. Play sng, working my way up to higher stakes. Play $5 $10 at Pokerstars and $10 $20 at pacific. Play ring every now and then, usually at the start of the month when i have been paid. With ring games i cash out whatever i win and with sng i am trying to build a bankroll.

I like how aggressive you can play in tourney since everyone starts out equal also.

RE: ring games or tourneys.

i agree, cash games requires a level of patience i haven't got. i find it difficult to adjust my usual loose aggressive play accordingly, Although i have had a loose aggressive style pay dividends. However i find laying a hand down more difficult in a cash game because it is real money your investing and the will to win it can be too great. it is a game for the more diciplined. I've managed to fold straights, flushes and sets in tourneys when i know i'm beat, i find it more difficult to do that in a cash game.

RE: ring games or tourneys.

I have won and lost more in cash games this runs into the $1000s of dolars. i agree with jaded i have little patience and therefore prefer sngs. This also true with the hands i play i just don't have the patience to wait for the big hands, this does however improve your poker greatly with regards to post flop play. Although i do have the patience to play the game in position i hate playing out of position and will avoid it as often as possible.

RE: ring games or tourneys.

I found that the hands people play are consistently more solid therefore you are usually in a pot with someone who is willing to play the hand to the end more often. Bluffing is difficult in cash. I have decided if i'm gonna play cash more often i will be far more selective when entering a pot. Might use the time waiting for better hands for reading some books while i play.
